Experienced licensing and leisure commercial property expert Andrew Spencer has joined Barry Crux & Company.
Now part of the Garness Group, the business is working in partnership with our expert commercial property team at Garness Jones in a move aimed at sharing expertise and growing both businesses across North and East Yorkshire.
Mr Spencer has been recruited to work closely alongside Barry and Rosie Crux, to further develop work in the retail, restaurant, hotel, leisure and licensed premises sectors, alongside increasing its presence in the commercial property markets.
He brings a wealth of experience in advising and acting on property matters, working with private individuals to large public listed corporations.
In more than two decades in the industry he has sold, let and acquired sites for clients including community public houses, high street circuit bars, restaurants, night clubs and packages of sites across Yorkshire, the North East and North Lincolnshire.
And he says the opportunity to do what he loves with Barry Crux & Company was too good to turn down, selecting the move ahead of other potential positions which recently became available.
“This is very much me coming back to a specialism which I know really well, and in which I have good experience and many contacts, with a business which has a proven reputation in this area of work,” he said.
“My background for the vast majority of my career has been in leisure and licensing property, it’s what I know, what I enjoy, and having worked for the past year or so in general commercial property deals, I feel I’m getting back to what I know best, and where I can add best value for my employer, and our clients.”
‘Potential for growth’
Having worked in commercial property for more than 25 years, Mr Spencer, 51, feels there is ‘plenty of potential for growth’ at Barry Crux and Company, especially now it is part of the Garness Group, and working closely in partnership with the Garness Jones business.
“There’s plenty of experience around the table and the two businesses bring new knowledge and contacts to one another which is going to bring big benefits. The target is growth into new areas and markets for each business over time,” he said.
“Certainly Barry Crux is well known and established in York, and also across North Yorkshire, but there are opportunities for further growth in licensing and leisure in Hull and East Yorkshire too as well as the North of England.”
Mr Spencer, a Qualified as RICS Associate in Real Estate Agency, joins from Bradley Hall, having previously spent 16 years at Fleurets chartered surveyors and five years with Christie & Co.
David Garness, managing director of the Garness Group, said: “Andrew is an excellent addition to the team at Barry Crux and Company as he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the leisure and licensing property.
“He of course joins an exceptional team who know the local market so well, but crucially he will bring new ideas, the experience of working in other cities and on different types of property deals, and new contacts to help us grow and further develop the business.”
